New Developments in the World of International Adoption
With Russia closing its doors to United States citizens adopting Russian orphans,
the profiles of children coming home to families from other countries as well as
the adoption process have changed. The children most requested by adoptive families
are now finding homes more frequently in their birth countries, while older children
and children with special needs are now first in line for international adoption.
Identifying which country works best for your family is usually the first step you
would take when moving forward. Things to consider when adopting internationally
are: age, gender, race and medical needs. If you're unsure about what would
work best for your family, AAC adoption specialist should be able to assist you
in identifying the most important requirements, which will ultimately assist you
in deciding what country program will work best for your family.
Our International Adoption Programs:
Bulgaria adoption program:
· The wait time for a healthy, young child less than 3 years of age is up to 36 months.
The wait for an older child, 5 years of age and older is significantly shorter.
· Married couples and singles can apply. There is no requirement regarding the length
of marriage or prior divorces. There is no age limit.
· Two trips are required to Bulgaria. The first trip is 7 days. The second trip
is scheduled in 3-4 months after the first trip, and is again approximately seven
days.
· Families are fully supported by professional staff throughout their entire stay
on both trips.
Ukraine adoption program:
· Ukrainian law requires orphans to be at least five years old before they are eligible
for intercountry adoption. The law exempts children with certain special needs,
relative adoptions, and sibling adoptions from the age requirement.
· Foreign citizens must be married in order to be eligible to adopt from Ukraine.
· Trip 1 takes 2.5 weeks. Trip 2 takes 1 week, Trip 3 takes 2 weeks.
· Families are fully supported by professional staff throughout their entire stay
on both trips.
Kazakhstan adoption program:
The Ministry of Education and Science, the Central Authority of Kazakhstan has accredited
Adopt-A-Child, Inc in November of 2012. We are very excited to be able to begin
accepting applications for adoptions under the new procedures of Hague Convention.
Kazakhstan announced they would reopen to international adoption in January 2013.
At this time, we are awaiting confirmation that the Kazakhstan adoption program
is open and ready to accept new applications.
· Children available for adoption in Kazakhstan range in age from 8 months to 16
years. Majority of the children are of Eurasian background while 30% are considered
Caucasian.
· There is a requirement of maximum age difference of 45 years between the adoptive
parent (either parent) and child. No more than 2 divorces per adoptive parent are
allowed.
· Priority to adopt is given to married couples. Single women are considered on
individual basis.
· 2 or 3 trips required. Trip 1 takes around 4 weeks. Trip 2 is approximately 1
week. Trip 3 is 2.5 weeks.
· Families are fully supported by professional staff throughout their entire stay
on all trips.
